I clean them with a microfiber cloth dipped in a bowl of 1/2 warm water and 1/2 distilled vinegar, then wipe with a clean/damp cloth before trying with a third cloth. My one complaint is that they’re not easy to clean- the bowls and plastic covers are removable and can be submerged in water for cleaning but the main base cannot be submerged and there are plenty of crevices where food and dust can accumulate. They run on batteries but they last quite some time- I can’t remember exactly when we got them but it was more than a year ago and we just changed the batteries for the first time last month. We’ve found that if one cat pushes the other out of the way after the feeder is already open, they are able to steal food but it doesn’t happen often. It was also super easy to pair with their microchips, and they come with a tag for a collar if there is any issue with the implanted chip. The cats were pretty easy to train to use them- it depends on your cat, some will be more nervous about the sound and will take more time but the instructions provided by surefeed ended up working for all four of our cats even though one of them wouldn’t get near the thing to begin with. Bottom line is I would definitely repurchase and recommend, but I think there is some room for improvement. I’ve been using the surefeed feeders for my cats for more than a year now. Overall review: I recommend if you buy the additional part, but hate the fact that you have to buy an additional part. Most importantly, my other cat cannot break his way in! Even when my older cat is eating, my young rascal kitty is unable to get a bite of food! It's amazing! However, again, I want to note that without the additional purchase of a back cover, this would be completely useless in my opinion. Combined with treats as incentive, he is already off training mode in just 5 days! This was very helpful in getting my cat used to it. They have a "training mode" where the cover will start 1/4 open, 1/2 open 3/4 open as you cat progresses through the levels. My cat was really scared of the door opening and he would run away from his food when it opened. My package arrived on Saturday and it was easy to set up. However, this adds an extra 30 dollars to the already 150 dollar price tag which is kinda of a rip off. I think without this part it would be a pretty useless purchase because the back is completely open. They have an extra "part" for sale that is a cover for the back which I bought. I bought the sure feed microchip feeder directly from the website. Hi all! First, thanks for all your feedback! I wanted to give a little update in case anyone else out there is considering buying: I ended up putting the microchip feeder away and just fed them both the prescription food until my older kitty who was on it died. Sorry - it sounds like your prescription food is one your other cat probably shouldn't be eating. My main reasoning was the prescription food was very expensive and not necessary for the one cat as my vet had already said it wouldn't hurt anything for both to eat it. ![]() The cat who was supposed to have prescription food started eating the non-prescription stuff because she was hungry due to giving away all her prescription food.Īll of this took about 3 days and it nearly killed me. My cat on the prescription food started pulling food out and giving it to the other cat to the point other cat was getting more of the prescription food than the one who was supposed to have it. The machine itself worked just fine, but my other cat cried and cried and wouldn't leave the machine alone. I tried one for this issue when I had two with one on prescription food. I have mine against a wall, but I saw you can get plastic covers that cover the back and the side a bit more to prevent other cats gaining entry that way if you’re worried the younger cat will try that. He picked it up with no issues and used it until we decided to feed him freely with the other boys. It’s been a year or two now and they don’t bother even attempting to steal from the feeder now.Ĭurrently have a foster cat and used a feeder with him when he first moved in so that he could have food in his safe space but it wouldn’t be eaten by the others when we opened the door to let him roam the house. At the start two of the other greedy cats would stick their head in and it would close on them, Stan would back out and sit a bit away until they walked off and then would go back to eating in peace. So he has his feeder and gets his two meals a day and can eat whenever he wants. If one of the other four even look at him he leaves his bowl and lets them eat his wet food. I currently only use one for Stan as he’s really flighty with food. I have multiple surefeed pet feeders as I’d like to feed my three cats from them when I have my own house.
